Battery draining... STILL.

Well I went to start my car today after not driving it for a few days (which is unusual for me), and it wouldnt start. I needed my dad to boost me.

I had this same problem last winter too (its fine in the summer)... someone said my alarm might be draining, I had it checked out - fine. Then I looked at my system. I even got it rewired better than it was. Capacitor display and both amps are shutting off. So that shouldnt be the problem either. I dont see any lights left on after arming/locking my car, so I have no idea what it could be.

Battery is less than a year old... Alternator was rebuilt this year also.

Anyone have any ideas?? I'm clueless...

The only lights that could stay on are the front corners/turn signals... the headlights go off with the car. And the car buzzes if I leave those on, so it doesnt happen.

The interior lights are on until I arm/lock the car.. then they fade out.

So I dunno

EDIT: Looks like I found my problem. Battery needs replacing, it's never been replace since the car was born

Hey man! I have the same problem right now.. Car will not start it's doing the fast clicking/tack tack tack sound when you start the car and the lights will shutoff and turnoff when you start it. The only thing I did today was reset the oil service lights and found a fault code that says throttle position sensor using the Peake tool. But still, I did the reset and then even unplug the battery for an hour and same deal. All control works lights up the dash and the OBD and A/C is working fine. What could it be ? I checked the battery and its not bad.

I was reading your other thread and spark plugs were brought up.... is that a possible cause of my problem? Cuz I think I actually do need new spark plugs.. I've never changed them since I got the car.. (not sure how often yer supposed to).

If I do get new spark plugs, which would u recommend? 92 325i auto

Although your alternator was recently rebuilt, it may still be faulty. It has happened to me twice on my previous cars, the regulator was faulty. Check the voltage on the battery while the car is running, should be around 14.5 +/- .2 volts.

I'm not sure about e36.. but the SI board in e30s has a factor in alternator charge.

Whoops, forgot about my own thread

My capacitor displays 14.2... I think thats ok. It shouldnt be the battery anyway though, I had it checked out.

Do you guys think it would help if I turned my system down about 5 minutes before I got home? Maybe that way all the electrical crap will be fully charged and more likely to last a night or 2 in the colder weather..... what'd ya think? would it make a difference?

Sounds like you may have a short somewhere in your electrical system.

Can everyone that is having this problem please tell me if they have stiffening caps on their stereo systems? Sometimes (especially when using cheap or faulty caps), small amounts of current may actually ‘leak’ in the cap slowly draining power over time. It took me 3 months and 2 dry cell batteries to figure this out. I’m using 2 caps that I had abused and found them to draw almost 1 amp.
