Digital Cameras
Helping a friend find a digicam
I have a Canon powershot G3
They have a budget of $500...my choices to them were the
Canon S400, S50, and G5
I'm a canon fan due to its complex features and beautiful pictures
Wondering what cameras you guys use and if your happy or disatisfied
Thanks.

I think the G5 is a tad different from the other two that you mentioned. I had the S400, but returned due to the lack of manual features it had. I think it also depends if he is going to be taking a lot of ordinary point & shoot photos..if he is then i would go with the S400. If not, then the G5. The G5 has many manual options, but there is quite a differnce in price between the G5 and the S400.
I ended up ordering the G5

Yeah, the s400 is a really nice compact camera. I think your gf would prefer that one. Good luck.

also, here are the file formats for SONY:
JPEG, TIFF, Burst, Auto Bracketing, E-mail, Voice Memo
CANON:
JPEG (Exif v2.2), DCF, DPOF, AVI (Motion JPEG)
I have never heard of DCF or DPOF, or Burst, can someone explain these to me?
also, if you transfer it as TIFF from sony camera or as JPEG, will the tiff be a lot higher quality and also a lot higher hard drive space?
also, do u take the pictures as TIFF/JPEG or do you transfer them as a certain extension?
THanks

I've used the Nikon Coolpix 4500 a few times and I was amazed at the quality of the pics. And the range of options is impressive too.
If I was in the market, I'd really look at the Coolpix 4500. Sometimes it's worth spending a little more.
