Exclamation radar detectors...

anyone here in ontario use radar detectors?

if so, what do you use?

Is it even useful?

How easy is it for the cops to use their detector and catch you with it?

i was thinking of getting a V1 but all the testimonials ive read are from the USA so im not sure how the radar detectors fare up here. i don;t know if cops here and there use the same methods of speed measuring and whatnot.

THANKS

I used both the passport 7500 and the passport 8500 in Ontario for about 2 years. I always had it on, and in my window hard wired in. Completely undetectable, I even went through R.I.D.E. checks with it up and on. I had 4 tickets on my record, and from the time that I got the radar, no more tickets. The V1 in my opinion is the best radar out there. I would highly recommend the passport, but if you have the $$, go for the V1.

thanks. thats awesome. i'd love more testimonials liek that.

so it is completely undetectable? because i travel from ottawa to toronto quite often and i want to cut the time off my trip so i was thinking of getting one. but ive heard like some cops use laser or some stuff liek that and that we cant detect it or we cant detect the radar or whatnot. i so confused. so if i were to get one it WOULD benefit me?

some cops do have radar detector detectors

I heard stories that even a V1 was detected on Ontario, so no radar detector is safe. However, for the most part, most people get caught for having radar detectors when cops passing by, look into the car and see it on their dash.

My advice- once the detector has detected something, switch it off and slow down. It's done it's job.

Also, if you have an old detector, keep it under your seat, and if you so happen to get pulled over, put the new detector in your pocket- cops can't search you unless they suspect you have weapons or drugs- but they can search your car if they have cause.

i had a radar detector b4 and it was the V1 . and just to let you know I lost it on the 401 as I travel alot toronto to montreal . I figure the same route you do from ottawa. This is how I lost my radar. I was going around 180 then my radar went off . slowed down and I put the radar away in a safe spot I made. Then I would say 3-4 mins later i saw a blk crownvic up front far ahead. I knew who it was so he knew who i was as well dont know how though. I was driving so slow he pulled over to the side waited for me and pulled me over . The first thing he did was ask for my radar . He searched my car for 1hr and found nothing . So he started to nail my mods. He said if I gave him my radar he would not give me the 5 tickets i was going to get . So i gave it to him and he keeped his word. NO ticks on top of that he showed me how he cought me . He is only there to catch ppl with radars he said he is not out often but when he is he gets over 20 radars going on the 401. he showed me the system they had which was pretty interesting .(shhhhh) now he knew i was going to get another radar so he said that if I was going to get one the hardest ons for him to get are the valentines .(but they are not invincible) . you have to get closer for them to get you . hope this helps.

From my experience, a VG2 rejection system works pretty well. As I said. I have had the passport 7500 and 8500 radars. I never turned them off, and had them mounted up high on the window, hard wired. I put on about 60-80k / year, so I drive a lot. My radar has gone off countless times, and saved me every time. I never took it down, or even turned it off. So, these above stories don't apply to my experiences. The only thing that I could think of is that either:
1. I have been super lucky
2. The V1 mentioned above was an older version of the radar, without the VG2 rejection, or a more primitive version of the rejection.

What is hard wiring?

With the V1, they offer an "invisimirror" which I think the display of the radar unit goes in the rear view mirror, but where does the detection thing go?

Like I've seen the V1 placed up on the dash attached to the window before, but this is pretty obvious.
