Urgent.... my e30 doesn't pass emissions!!

okay so here's the deal. i went to get an emission test on my car and it failed, miserably. the mechanic told me that it could be the fuel injector or a number of things. back in april i brought my '86 325es to Europa to get it serviced. they charged by $1300 to tuneup my car. they changed the distributer cap, timing belt and a whole bunch of other stuff. before Sasha at Europa touched my car i passed the emission test with flying colors now.... forget about it. i took it back to Europa on Highway 7 today and they said they don't wanna fix it so now im gonna take it to a mechanic on tuesday and he's gonna look at it for me. by the way i think my car is running really rich, cause i can smell the fumes. and sometimes it doesn't start up properly. like when i start it up the engine doesn't turn over. hopefully my mechanic can fix her up and have her running good as new. do you guys have any ideas to what could be wrong? thanks

Two things: first the problem could be in the cold start injector...My friend had the same problem on a VW golf: it was hard to start, and when it did it was running rich as hell...Turns out it was the temperature sensor that was gone so it was dumping in fuel all the time. We jsut dissconected the sensor and the car ran fine, after trying to find the problem for 2 days

Second thing: I know the shop that does E-tests for BMW of Mississauga, the owner is very nice guy and if you tell him i sent you, he will take good care of it, find the problem and not F@#K around just to get more $$$ from you...

Do what I did. Ask for an emissions test, and when you hand the mechanic your keys, also hand him a $100 bill
(also, leaving a 6 pack in the trunk/front seat works sometimes well for free labour too )

check/buy the following if you haven't already...

1. o2 sensor(s)
2. pcv valve
3. carbon canister/filter
4. egr? (if your e30 has one)
5. fuel injectors
6. gas cap
7. catalytic converter(s)

i remember when I couldn't pass emissions, I spent a bundle on new stuff, but it ended up just being the PCV valve...a $9 part

well i took the car to Eurotech. he said that the previous owner installed new headers and did not install an O2 Sensor. he says he can get me one for $294 but its gonna be hard to install cause of the shape of the headers. does this sound right? how did my car pass emissions the first time with flying colors without an O2 sensor???? doesn't make sense to me
