Post M3 cams in 2.8

Where can I get these at a good price... I've been quoted 550 US for used ones and 1400 US for new ...

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Go to Bimmerforums.com and post up on the E36 M3 board. I got a set for 375 USD. There is a member there (Hugo) who may still know of a few around. My board name there is Stouffville Z3. You'll usually see me in the Z3 board.

no point.

bottom end and clutch/diff won't handle the extra pony for long.

I've got an m52 2.8 (same block as the S52 but aluminum with steel inserts). I'm looking for S52 cams.

Headwork??? There isn't any headwork to do on a BMW head. A port / polish of the BMW head *might* net you 1 or 2 HP at best. Talk to nearly ANY good BMW mechanic in the city, and they'll tell you the same thing.

As to the clutch / diff being able to handle the power, again, that's a bogus comment. The 328is and M3 use the same tranny, though the clutch is slightly smaller on the 328is. It's no problem, I know several people who have run the same tranny / clutch for over 2 years with a 3.2L motor. It's even less of an issue with the 2.8L - M3 cam combo.

As to the diff, again, not a problem. I have friends with 3.0L Euro motors and stock diffs, and no problems. Heck, I know a couple of people with 3.0L Euros in E30s, with the E30 rear diff and no problems.

Jeez...where do you guys dream up this stuff????

usually from my head? where do u think??

so really? 1-2hp? why did randy do it, then i know someone else who is a bmw mechanic who is also doing it..along with other work but i mean, by itself maybe it will get 1-2hp..but with more agressive cams, which makes the valves open more (and headwork, making the valves BIGGER) wont it bring MORE air than just more bigger valves? when u port and polish i mean..

Nice to see a couple of you guys know you're stuff.

I've recently installed an M50 manifold and S52 cams on my car. I have seen Dyno's of S52 cammed M52's and can attest to the gains. With Ltw flwl, cams, sfw, fan -, and pullies he put down 198 rwhp. X 1.15 (drivetrain loss)= 227 crank hp. last I checked this 37 hp over stock. Knowing that ltw flwl and clutch don't net hp on the dyno (only help free revving), and pullies are minimal help, youve got essentially cams, sfw and fan- doing the work. Take out the fan- (7hp), your left with about 30hp between sfw and cams. The law of diminishing returns tells us that indeed these cams do help our muffled little M52's quite a bit. Trans, cltch, diffy wear...are you nuts? Any bimmer guy know better than that.

thanks Bill... I thought I was only going to get 1-2 hp... just kidding...

guys, I've been doing research on this for almost a year in terms of the best route to upgrading performance in my car. I've considered everything ranging from engine swaps to forced induction to internal engine work.

So far the most cost effective method is as Bill has described. M50 intake, Cams, CAI and fan delete. With JC software (not standard shark injector but specifically tunned for this combination) I can get 254 hp. That's already in the S/C domain and surpasses the 3.2 stock. Cost wise this should be around 1500-2000 in parts.

I'm sure Bill has done his homework too. Hence my question on this post was 'Where to get them' rather than 'Is this good or not'.
