Not sure, maybe it is an indicator that lights up when you reach your maximum speed??? Just guessing

i read it a few weeks back somewhere else someone was asking the same question it was on bmwplanet.

someone was saying that light comes up if the miliage in your car is not the same with the computer or whatever. i don't remember the details.

it's a little light (i think) that tells you if it's below zero outside

thats what it's for on the volvo s80

I don't beleive that's the case with our bimmers. The onboard computer notifies us for tempurature drop (3 degrees to be exact for tempurature notification warning). That light never comes on when below zero.

some1 asked taht on DTM a while ago.....

they said it detects the amount of light and adjusts the brightness of the dash lights accordingly........im not sure...


try it out wit a laser pointer or flashlight and shine it directly on the sensor....

It lights up when the egine cutoff comes in... youve reached max spped in your BM, usually 205km/h

this is not a top speed light for sure

i think you're correct it's the sensor that determines when to turn on the dash lights for night time driving

My max speed was arround 225 km/h in my 2001 330CI.
