replacing brake light switch ....

i thought it would be a bitch replacing this brake light switch but turn out easier than what every body are saying ....

1. jam the brake pedal with a piece of wood just lightly (1/2") against the the seat.
2. take 3 - 4 screws that hold the cover and just drop it no need to take it off completely.
3. locate the brake switch (i bought the new one for 22 bucks + taxes from mississauga bmw), unplug it and dremel the one side of the locking tab and comes out very easily.
4. notice the new one has longer neck than the old one but DONOT push in the neck but if you do you can always pull it out. it'll set automatically when the pedal back into place.
5. easily install the new switch and then tested and close the cover back. NO NEED to crawl underneeth the dash. it was done in less than 15 minutes.

you press the brake pedal and your brake light comes on at the back of your car ....lol.... and other people would see it and stop behind you rather than smashing on to your car ...

Glad to see that you found an easy way to get at it cause I didn't and had to crawl under the dash Did you get the brake light circuit message again after your last post or did you just change it as a pm?

so far not yet, no brake light circuit message.

i found new one but i don't know if this is a problem or not. everytime i shift fast from 1 thru 4 and then back 3,2,1 slow down as soon the engine hit about 700 rpm it starts fluttering .... jumping up and down between 700 to 900 rpm as like i was playing with the gas pedal but actually i was pushing the brake pedal and the clutch and last it about 5 to 10 seconds and then stable again at 700 rpm. could this cause by dinan chip ? or it needs a tune up?
i just notice this today.

thanks, yes i did have to drill 'em. everything went pretty easy untill it gets to gas pedal ..... then the cursing starts ...lol.. F ..F ..B....

i can imagine... especially the bottom part of the gas pedal, not much room to work with. thats why i didn't bother, but i might eventually.....

Sounds like your idle control valve. My car has been doing that for a few months now and i've been meaning to clean the valve but i've been tooooo laaaazy.

there is a better way actually .... at top of the pedal there is a pin that hold the pedal if you can take it out which is another bitch to do then the pedal can pull forward from the top and then you can see everything behind it. i did the smart and faster way put a sticky tape on the index finger (i use electrical tape) with sticky part on the finger and make a circle so the other sticky part on the other side and put the nut on it then feel it behind the pedal on the hole then screw in the bolt .....

btw: slemmer is looking for one set for his 740 but the automatic set is out of stock ....

i was going to do it today but it doesn't do it any more since yesterday and i was driving all over the place hi way and city and even pushed it really hard but the problem never come back. i wonder if only because at that time i just disconnect and reconnect the DME?

i dont understand why you need to jam a piece of wood to the brake pedal.....when i did mine i didnt have too...just drop the klick panel down, pull out the old switch and put in a new one........maybe the e30s and e36s are different...

you right truely you don't really have to. the switch have like automatic setting ratched teeth on them ... i guess instead of putting force on your finger against the pedal to push the switch, have the pedal push back against the switch afterward ....
