Where is the stock amplifier in my car?

84 318i, just bought a cd deck to put in and don't want to use the stock fader/amp. Any help appreciated

mine was in the trunk on the left side. It's behind that carpet stuff where the factory jack is. just look aroung there and you'll find it

I dunno about the 80's but mine is under the steering wheel, behind the plastic covering

is there any difference with the stock amp off? cause my speakers sound flat with my deck..

I never did find it, and I looked in all those places

ANyways, I just reran the front speakers and tapped the wires running to the rears

there's a difference...

I bought I cheap ass Jensen deck from that xs cargo place for $79, so the volume is a little lower, but I gained some RCA Preouts so +small 40X2 amp +8"tubed sub= decent driving music for now. Enough to overcome the sunroof & 2windows effect anyways. My biggest complaint was the stock fader...only two signals going into the amp, and the amp just duplicated that for the rears

on the plus side i did find out what that middle button on the console is for (marking rubbed off years ago I guess

), my broken power antenna.
