E30 Security

I recently bought a 1987 325i convertible. It has a security system but I can't find any instructions on line and it's not mentioned in the manual.

There is a spot for a second key to the left of the driver's door key. It has a unique key that came with it (with a BMW logo on it). When the security key is inserted, I cannot turn it.

Now, when I turn the ignition key in the lock all the way to the right, the little light under the security key slot flashes briefly. I found later that when I unlocked the car then opened the door that the horn started honking. The only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery.

This car was brought over from Germany.

Has anyone seen this or is anyone able to point me to instructions for its use?

Thanks in advance.

Wow, never seen that before. I would have to guess its some sort of dealer option. Definitely not original to the car.

I don't want to imagine the wiring apocalypse that most likely accompanies this install...

I have never seen that option before either but removing the door panel and taking a peek at the mechanism should help identify how it works.
