Newly acquired 2002 325ci E-Test

Just purchased my first BMW, a '02 325ci.
Engine light is on currently and was told probably needed a 02 sensor and catalytic converter to pass E test. Also for safety would need new brakes all around.
Could use any advice or tips regarding these problems with my first BMW.
Thanks

what's the mileage on the car? Get an OBD2 scanner to check for code. go from there.
