1989 325ix Before and After

So I decided that I needed professional help bringing my 1989 325ix paint back to life. I did some research on DIY, found a pile of great info and ultimately decided that after 25 years of neglect I really needed a pro to give the car a good once over.

So I started looking into professionals. There are pile of options in and around Toronto and then I found Jay at mobile pro detailing. (Dixie and Britannia) Great guy, loves cars, excellent customer service and killer results.

It took a day, proper wash, clay bar, 2 stage compound polish and a top coat. 25 years of oxidation, crappy dish soap residue, environmental gunk, gone. Sweet baby Jesus, it looks new.

it looks amazing..but you gotta stay on top of it. Sun seems to suck the life outta the red enamel. I don't know why but, black and red seems to react to the sunlight. Must be the pigmentation of the paint back in the day. Not all the e30s had base clear on them. I've done a few of these and you could have saved some time but skipping some steps. A good grease cutting soap such dish soap to get rid of wax. Then take cutting compound followed by polishing compound and you'd be done. followed by a good coat of wax. Actually the car didn't look all that bad before the work..lol.

Is that original paint?

Looks great, Red cleans up really well but oxidizes easily, just keep up with some polish/wax in the spring and fall and you'll keep it looking great.

T.Dot, it is original paint. There was a pile of life left in it.

Now all I need to do is detail the inside!
