Not many white E39 M5's for sale in the whole of the US, let alone in California.

That being said there are 4 at my work alone.

Alpine white (my car), Jet black, Imola red and Le Mans blue.

I still haven't tracked down who owns the red one, know the owners of the other 3.

Correction.

You either smart enough to sell your E39 before it consumes your sanity or you just keep spending money on it, or buy more.

The E39's are literately 1/2 junk cars and 1/2 own by insane owners.

True story.

Not American yet

Put on the first of my goodies - Vorsteiner rear diffuser and black kidneys

As time allows I'll install the following: Stoptech BBK, coilovers, Kerscher front lip, the wheels off my old M5, euro center armrest, AA intakes.

And yes I know the car is filthy, it was washed right afterwards.

I had a lot of my friends make fun of me for getting the same cars as I had in Canada, but there is nothing else that met our needs.

I test drove the Audi RS4, E55 AMG, E90 M3 and still liked the E39 M5 the best. Also in my unicorn color, so how could I pass it up. And the car is as close to perfect as they come

The only car I would get rid of my E39 (which I wont, lol) for would be an E90/92 M3 6spd. The W211 E55 is definitely not a replacement for an E39 M5 even after 4 months of owning one right now. The two couldn't be more different.

I drove the E90 M3 6spd and it has significantly less torque, it needs to be driven more like a Honda (higher RPM), great car, but the E39 suits my needs better.

Yeah, similar to a stock E46 M3: they need to be wrung out to really let fly. Nothing a shorter final drive can't fix

I'm a huge proponent of the E39 M5 and will certainly be an owner one day, but I'd still love to hear what your thoughts are on the comparison between it and the RS4. That is the only Audi I've ever been consumed by and wanted to own. When compared to an E60 M5 I'd actually take the B7 RS4 over it and that has never been the case for me when looking at any other German car maker in comparison with an ///M (Porsche excluded but that's not the same discussion).

Think I mentioned it already in this thread, but again, nice M5 you've got there.

I've always wanted to ask you about that... tell us more! Isn't the E55 faster acelleration? It's a sick looking car for sure!

A good friend has an RS4 down here, so I have driven it many times. The RS4 is more like the E90 M3, significantly less torque, and needs to be driven with the revs up, as down low it feels "slow".
That being said, it's a great car and I would own one, but for the fact that I would have to pay $10k more that the M5, and that it's a lot smaller inside. Back facing baby seat and me being over 6", makes it a no go. He went from an E39 M5 to the RS4 and swears by it.

It will destroy the E39 M5 any time the roads are wet. But in the dry the M5 is a bit faster, also once you're in the mid-range, the M5 really shines.
I had looked at E60 M5's, but as a daily the E39 is much better, not to mention much better on gas.
