Appraisals

I recently picked up an 88 325 and I need an appraisal done before the ownership can be transfered to my name. Any recommendations on where I can get this done? I'd like to just get an "appraisal" and one that isn't too pricey...

Awesome, thanksguys! It's nothing complicated for now; just the green paper that the MTO wants before they will transfer the title of a 20+ year old vehicle

I think MTO wants an appraisal for tax purposes for anything older than 20 yrs.

you'd think they'd be happy with the previous tax(es) they collected on the car. Sales tax on used cars between private individuals is criminal

I can't recall the name of the guy (I've got it written down somewhere at home), but something like $50 for appraisal at my place and it was done. Took the papers to MTO and transferred the ownership no problem. I found the guy in the yellow pages.

It is, also, when you do a straight trade (car for car) you need to appraise the cars in question, and pay taxes on those as well.

If you bring it to me in Mississauga I can do it for free. Anyone with a dealer Lic can do this. This is for basic MTO "green" form needed at ministry.

I had a long relationship with my local VW dealer (owned 4) - and one of the salesmen did up the form for free. Took him all of 10 minutes. He was nice and lowballed it.

And don't let the license office con you into paying for UVIP... the office at Bayfield Mall in Barrie said I had to pay the $25, even though the car was over 20 years old. The office in Gravenhurst just took the appraisal form. They told me it was unnecessary to pay for the UVIP.
