Interesting. Everything ive read says that the frame rails need to be notched. Im going to dry fit the motor before bolting everything up so ill find out soon enough! Did you keep a/c or get rid of it?

I actually ended up buying the Garagistic motor mounts and was thinking of buying the pedal bracket and going that route, but I'm trying to keep this on a budget and that was just way too costly factoring in the pedal box + master cylinders.

I also already have the stock e34 booster so I just need to make it all work in the e30!

Also started making some progress last weekend and pulled the motor out of the 540. Planning on bringing the e30 into the garage this weekend and get going on pulling the m20 out

I deleted AC. If you are keeping the AC you will need to notch the RH frame rail to fit the compressor.
The engine will fit in the E30 without AC compressor and headers no problem.

There are 2 other possible reasons to modify the frame rails.
1. Use the V8 rad. You will need to notch the LH and RH frame rail. I wouldn't recommend this at all. Buy an aftermarket rad that fits the E30 and a good fan.
2. Pocket the LH frame rail to use the 540 booster bracket and linkage. This also requires cutting the strut support.

If you are serious about building a track/race car then you don't need AC, go boosterless, and use a aftermarket rad with good warranty support. Try and keep the structure of the car as stock as possible.

Sounds good. I would have liked to keep a/c but ill remove it for now since it's simpler. Yea I was thinking of using the stock e34 rad but it doesn't make much sense to notch framerails to fit it in when there are other options.

This car is remaining a comfortable summer dd/toy so I'm going to stick with the stock booster setup and modify what I need to make it work.

Check out the thread in my sig for my track car! Loved building that car so much that I decided to buy this guy for the street!

Brought the e30 in the garage last weekend and started ripping it apart.

I cut the front core support out to make it easier to remove/install motor. Ill fab up some brackets to bolt it back up.

The engine bay was so filthy. Just coated to grease.

Did some cleanup and removed the subframe, and suspension.

Lots of work still ahead. but this is a good start. I think i'll be ripping apart the interior next then getting going on fitting the e340 brake booster and linkage.

It's time to consider a change in paint colour, you won't want to paint the engine bay once that v8 is in there.

I know man I've been tossing the idea around of doing a full paint job. would be so easy while everything is out of there. Just a lot of work. If I'd do it, pretty sure I would either go with BMW Steel grey or Subaru Dark grey metallic.

Do you know if the AC worked? I'd try and keep it Chris - totally worth it IMO.

notching the frame isn't a big deal - we have the tools and skills to do it - make it happen

looks awesome - keep it up!
