The M badge holds value and it is the market that dictates the selling price
even though some asking price is a bit high..

If you are seriously looking for one,, just be patient and find the right one that you are
"comfortable" in paying, else look to the US to import.

Nice!! Guess you really like your S54s, eh?
Great choice on those winter tires, too.

OEM ZCPs are the tits btw. My fav wheels on the E46 M3 by far.

I love the e46 M3. But I can't help but get the feeling that they're overpriced for what they are, especially compared to cars of the similar era. For example, though not a driver's car, an SL500 sells for cheaper in Ontario than a similar year / kms M3 would. Let's face it, the SL comes with a mountain of tech and is a hardtop convertible, better justifying the 20-35k price tag.

Perhaps one of you ladies or gents could explain to me why the e46 is so astronomically priced for a car reaching approximately a decade old and has 120000+ kms. From my search, I've regularly noticed people asking over $20000 for cars with over 120000kms. With taxes etc, paying 1/4 of a hundred grand for a 10 year old car with that many kms seems crazy right?

Before you say that I need to drive one to understand... I have driven many before, but can't appreciate them enough (especially the SMG versions) to justify paying what people ask because they're becoming very dated with the new M due out early 2014.

At current seller's evaluations of their vehicles (and don't get touchy M3 owners), would you be better off buying something newer like a 328i/335i or even an Infiniti G37s 6MT for the same money?

What do you think and why? Are e46 M3s selling at an inflated value? Is there such a cult following for these cars that prices are kept high? Or am I way off the map here?

Personally, I'm probably going to buy an e90 or e92 M3 with low kms unless you can convince me otherwise
I stopped reading when I saw SL500 and M3 being used in the same sentence.
One is a luxo coupe and the other a sports coupe. Totally different purpose. Totally different target demographic. Totally different cult following. etc..
If you can afford the e92 M3, go that way. Otherwise, M>>>Non M, regardless of vintage.

Because it draws stares where ever I go even though it's 10 years old. Had it at BMW dealer's open house recently and customers paid more attention to it than the new BMW's.
Ps $25,000 offer and I would not even consider selling
Love SMG now that I'm used to it. Would not trade for manual gearbox. They are not that difficult to change over if desired. I have yet to find anything in the price range that I even want over a good E46M3

Please refer to prices of E30 M3s.. and those are 20+ years old. Also my friend picked up his E46 M3 6 Speed coupe with just over 200km on it for $8000 needed nothin for safety and passed etest with ease. True story I kid you not.

I just bought a 2003 M3 with 57000 kilometres on it. The car is fantastic. I am trading a 2011 Mercedes and happily doing so. I used to have a highly modified 2001 S4. The M3 is much more athletic and much more enjoyable to drive than any other car. Does it have the latest gadgets? No. Did I spend 15 minutes searching for a pairing function only to figure out later there is no Bluetooth? Yes. Do I compare the navigation and iPod integration to a modern car? No, because the driving fun of the M3 more than out weighs what a regular 3 series, C class or A4 delivers. This M3 is not modified and it is a lot more fun than my S4 with 400 horsepower/400 pounds of torque ever was.

People can price what ever they want. If they are willing to wait for it to sell or never sell then that's up to them. A seller only ever needs to find one buyer. There are way more houses out there that are priced even more insanely that still continue to sell sooner or later.

One more thing to note, a potential M3 buyer can often be looking at 2005+ Porsche 911 vehicles. I know I was. With a M3, I have a car that is as fun to drive, has more usable space, a much nicer interior, just as much track and street capability/respect with the price tag of less than half of the $50,000 Carrera S. Comparatively speaking, it's not that crazy of a choice as a used car. Same way that people don't think twice about paying $500,000 for a condo, it's because there are condos twice the price but offering marginally more in tangible value.

I understand Lexus wasn't a fair comparison and all I was trying to say is that the ride of my E46 M3 isn't as comfortable as I would like it to be. I came from the Mk5 GTI so I'm used to that all aorund package, speed, ride quality, and practicality.

I hate bumpy road when I'm in the M and I hate the traffic when I'm in the M. But in the open road as I guess most other M drivers would agree, the car will return the favor.
