I was thinking about getting a GoPro for filming car stuff and possibly using it as a dashcam too but I know it's not really good for a dashcam because it's not made for that and the battery life compared to cameras made specifically for being used as a dashcam.
The problem is that the gopro doesn't do loop recording, so it's useless as a car camera. It also doesn't automatically start recording when power is supplied like all dashcams do.
As for power source, do like the above poster mentioned and cut a hole.
