That's true - good point. However, if an M5 has to dispatch, say... a Corolla LXi, the driver may choose to do so in 6th gear, or 3rd or whatever he chooses. If the M3 driver with less "area under the curve" happens upon the same challenge, the driver be forced to downshift or risk being shamed on this very informative thread!!!!!!

Whoa whoa whoa. Settle down there bro, a Corolla weighs over 1000lbs less than your E39 M5. There is no way you'll offset that with only +200 HP.

Beige paint is also more aerodynamic because its resembles dust, so there is no friction with the dirty air.

Strange, according to BMW and Road & Track, M Roadster (S54) is slower than E46 M3.

within the e36/7/8 community those numbers were always disputed. the 0-60 time R&T came up with was crazy too (over 5 sec afaik)

the s54 roadster came stock with a 3.15 diff, which is quite long

I'm gonna trade mine in on a 1992 beige Corolla and stance it out. See you boys at RollaCruise 2013 at Mosport.
It could go either way. I want a corolla now.

Faaawwwk...... My daughter's bff's dad just dumped a beige corolla for 1000! And he bought a turbo Kia optima!! I can't believe I let that slip through my fingers... What an awesome trade that woulda been! Hey, I think my grandma has one! No wonder why she gets all those speeding tickets!

I haven't lost a race to an NA E46 M3, ever.

Run after run, Anuk's M5 is faster than my car. There really isn't a discussion here.
wrong. we need another 5 pages of no brains going over the data under the curves to make sense of this rather simple debate.

Also, we need to determine how much washer fluid 2bmwguys m3 had in the tank, gas in his fuel tank, where the oil level was on his dipstick, etc to get an accurate weight on his car. This would make a WORLD of difference in a real deal street race with the random M5

There's no point debating any of this...

If you drive an e39 M5 setup properly you will forget its so big and the extra 4 doors. Ive driven Anuks car and it feels like my E46 M3 which is on coils as well.
As stated it all comes down to preference. I love the M5s but I can't see myself in one so I bought an M3.
As far as who's faster? The S62 is surprisingly fast and I can attest to it beating a fully built M3 and Mystikals roadster. The dyno numbers seem low but its that flat TQ curve.

If money was so no option id drop an S62 in my M3 and I would have my dream M
