My ins will go up due to one at fault claim.

Sucks about them not covering the engine, it sounds like if you just went into the wall you'd get full value. Would they even have known about the engine damage if you hadn't told them?

Either way, hope it works out for you.

Exactly. How twisted is that eh? You are obligated by law to buy insurance from a PRIVATE insurer. You pay for insurance for many many years, giving them business, and when it's time to get what you are paying for (protection), you are either "forgiven" because you buy into the "forgiveness" plan, OR you get paid out and either kicked out or your rates go up. Lose/Lose situation in all directions.

Yes, had I just hit the wall I would have gotten full value. Unlikely they would have known about the engine damage however at that point I'd be committing fraud.

Win some lose some.

...shouldve just "went into the wall" mang.

insurance is a joke in this province.

Sorry to hear.

I had a car stolen(yrs ago) and I had to fight tooth and nail to get what I got and it was still lowish. I stayed with them but a couple yrs later my rates were going to skyrocket for no reason. I jumped ship and never looked back.

So after a month we finally agreed on a number.

Here's what I know now
1) If you don't have a broker get one. Mine was invaluable.
2) As long as you aren't racing you are covered everywhere, including the track.
3) They can't dump you because you were on the track. Two or more at faults in one year is cause, but they have to have cause.

Is lapping considered racing?

I do not believe so, I think racing would be a timed event, etc.

Now there was a lapping day at a recent race in between races, I think you would have a tougher time with that lapping day as it is advertised as a race day. The insurance company will want to play the race card and invalidate your claim. Mine was for a relatively little amount, I think if you claimed much more they would spend more time investigating.

I forgot to mention you will need to have collision on your car, as it will be an at fault accident.

I was asked a number of times how fast I was going, and honestly as I don't look at the speedometer I don't know.

They also tried to say I was on slicks, and I was actually on very new 888's . I did get compensation for two of them where were flat spotted in the spin.

One less thing for them to argue. The tires I was on were DOT approved, clearly road tires. Don't give them anything to cling to...

Good luck with everything. I've had a few friends/family go through this in the past year.

School/DE: covered.

Lapping: tough, but most likely covered.

Racing: no coverage - be it time attack, wheel-to-wheel, autoX....

Just wanted to say thanks for posting about your experience. Hopefully none of us will need it! But it does make me feel better about attending a school / DE event.

You should buy your car when its auctioned off with part of your payout and then swap everything over onto a 328 and put the cams in the 328 motor

I retained the salvage. Cams have a slight nick in one lobe. But are for sale

I'm probably getting an M3 from the states and have a line on a block for the S50B32
