Good news / bad news

My E46 M3 was damaged in the flood and will be written off.

Really sad. The car is irreplaceable. She was a factory Dakar Yellow in absolute mint condition and under 80k kms. Not sure what I'll get in to next as a summer / fun car ... it will be hard to do better then the M3 without spending double. Anyway, here are some outgoing pics.

I've put the wheels up for sale in a feeler ad if anyone is interested (they are now powder coated matte black). The pic of the wheels does no justice to them in this post, but it's what I have.

The good news? We're having a baby and were looking for a second car anyway. We looked at everything from an F-150 to X5s/X3s and all the wagon options out there. Ended up ordering an Estoril Blue F31 Touring M Sport with all options except the Driver Assists and Connected drive. Yeah it's auto, and yeah it has xDrive .... but I think this is a pretty bad ass family car. And it should keep me somewhat patient while I decide what to do about replacing the M3!

Negotiating with insurance on the settlement now. See what happens.

You are gonna absolutely love that touring. I see no reason you wouldn't: a capable chassis, all the MSport bits, and that 8spd auto has received nothing but VERY high praise from all the big name automotive journalists.

Extremely tragic that you lost such a rare M3 Hopefully insurance pays out well considering the extremely low KM and rare color, make sure to drive that point home to'em.

Congrats on the new car and the baby on the way.

Sucks about the e46 m, hopefully it shows up at auction and someone picks it up and brings it back to life.

Any details on what happened? Did the engine hydro lock and shut off?

Thanks! Bittersweet (new car and losing the M).

Engine hydro-locked. There was def water in the intake. There was no water in the car until it was towed - found a small puddle behind the driver's seat once we got it home. I got most of the water out. Went to see it today - it's at Avenue Collision. No mouldy smell.

The shop apparently started it (bastards!) ... one of the junior tech's says it starts fine and only "sputters on idle." They started it to move it apparently.

Lots of requests to buy it off of me to repair once insurance settles. Let's see what happens ...

Thanks! We're super excited for the touring. Even the wife was bummed about no manual transmission - she'll probably drive this most. The 8 speed was nice though.

Insurance is low-balling me right now (standard) ... but I have been driving the value of the car home repeatedly. Luckily I know my rights. And I'm in no rush to settle - it was a leisure car so I don't need to replace it immediately. I am willing to go to arbitration to avoid being screwed by these jokers.

At one point the adjuster was like "is it a 3 series with M package?" I was like huh I've been through 4 adjusters at this point ...
