vehicle tax

Im purchasing a used car through a private sale.is the tax determined by the amount on the bill of sale or blackbook value?it is a 2004

By the blackbook if the Bill of sale is very low than blackbook
but one can alwyas try the bill of sale...

I paid 3500 and the avg blackbook is 6000.so I pay tax on the 6000? What a scam

If the UVP has a value (some cars dont) that is over $1000 (wholesale) you pay on that amount, if under; whatever you tell them. If no value shown; whatever you tell them.

With an appraisal; the bill of sale or appraisal, whichever is higher.

in my experience the chick at the desk asks me and just types in what I tell her. depends on the clerk of course(and Ive always had a bill of sale with me).
