Oh ok! Thanks. I did however input a different DNS address i found online and it seemed to have worked as well. Is changing the DNS address a good idea or it doesn't matter?

I find most of the website out there that offer you to use USA servers charge you at least $5 a month if using a computer.

IF on the other hand you change the DNS on you PS3 or Android device you do not need to pay.

Been using Netflix US on PS3 for about year now.

You do need to search for new ones every once and a while as they get turned off or boot your IP i guess.

US netflix used to be better, but now they are both good, selection on the Canadian side has improved tremendously over the last few months

Agreed. In fact I'm finding more and more content on the Canadian Netflix that isn't available on the US Netflix. I just toggle between the two using the manual DNS configuration option on PS3 and I always find something interesting to watch.

Has anyone else seen "Archer"?...absolutely hilarious!

I use to do that using StrongVPN with a linksys router doing the permanent VPN. I'm sure there are free alternatives now.

^^dns filtering is better because it only filters the traffic that needs to be redirected. the rest of your traffic egresses from your network out to WAN through your ISP with no additional hops.

I use unblock-us. To take it a step further, if you live in a state of paranoia like I do and have a few computers, set up your own DNS server and configure it to send netflix DNS requests to unblock-us and all other DNS requests to your provider / another DNS. Something about unblock-us seeing all of my DNS requests bothers me.

The bonus is with your own DNS server you can just change your forwarder there and it essentially changes it everywhere else in your house without configuring it on each and every device you have.

so you're actually doing zone transfers to a local DNS? that seems like a huge waste of resources. and if you're not (your DNS is acting as a forwarder) unblock-us' servers still see each DNS request (albeit, only the first time until the timer expires)

How is it a waste? A DNS server (not some Windows blowhard but a Debian VM with BIND) takes NOTHING to run.

You can't do a zone transfer from unblock-us unless their security is just awful bc zone xfers are blocked usually. You just set up forwarding rules and forward requests for netflix.com to unblock-us and everything else to your provider.

interesting, if you set up per domain forwarding you'd accomplish your goal. i may end up doing something like that.

That's what I have. Just add it to named.conf.local.

zone "netflix.com" in {
type forward;
forwarders { 208.122.23.22; 208.122.23.23; };
};

zone "hulu.com" in {
type forward;
forwarders { 208.122.23.22; 208.122.23.23; };
};

So I have mine setup for hulu and netflix. You can just keep adding for any other services you want to route.

named.conf.options just has your usual ISP config.
