It's generally only the regulator that goes on them anyway... but a rebuilt one for that amount is a no-brainer
He's pretty fair, he seems to change more than just the parts that commonly fail and cleans/paints up the case to make it look new.
I have bought a few alternators from him and never had a problem. Last one I bought was for a E53 X5 M54 and it was $100 and I didn't have my core so he charged me $10 core charge so I'm sure he'll work somehting out if you wanted to give him your 80A as a core.
He charges more for new Valeo 180-220 amp alternators in newer BMWs, it'll be $180 but still a very good deal. My voltage regulator failed on my E70 X5 4.8i and I bought just the part for $80 from him and chagned it my self. BMW wanted $250 and it was on national back order. The orignal alternator new is about $800
