E36m3 ->Lower - alternator bolt size anyone?

Hey everyone,

I don't know why this is so hard to find, but I lost my lower alternator bolt for the bottom hole that mounts the alternator up on my s52 engine 98'

Anyone know what size bolt I need? The BMW guy can't even find it ..

Thank you in advanced everyone

Oh dude I had the hardest time with that bolt on mine too. I ended up pulling one at a scrapyard last resort and it was the only way lol. If I look back in my build thread I might have a picture or something.

Lower bolt

The correct bolt should be 07 11 9 904 677. It is 6 inches in length and the diameter/pitch is 10mm by 1.5.

^Mark knows his stuff. Great guy, great rates, great service. Worth the travel to Ajax. I gotta plug him everytime I see his posts just because he was the only shop that did a great job for my car and charged 1/3rd the labor that everyone else on maxbimmer (all of the top shops here) were asking to charge.

I don't really have anything to contribute to the thread..lol.

Don't mean to be the voice of negativity, but as I said that bolt didn't work for my motor. I tried every part number listed on this diagram and none did it, including the # listed. I don't think the two bolts are the same

Bolt should be the same, the difference is based on the fitted alternator. The 80 amp alternator does not have the threaded insert so a nut is required at the rear, the 140 amp alternator has a threaded insert fitted.

Wow. I can't believe the amount of misinformation going around this forum these days.

The Upper and Lower bolts are NOT the same. And both types of alternators have a nut attached to the back already. Some early E36's had a individual nut.

Give this a shot: 07119900630

Next time look in the electrical system in the ETK. The bolts are in the same section as the alternator.

There are 2 different variants and I have seen and have both alternators and bolts, the number is based on the the production date.

Both alternators do not have a nut insert the later ones do after 96', it is some what hit and miss. Some reman 80 amp alternators may or may not have this fitted.

The number you provided 07 11 9 900 630 is the correct number for the alternator lower bolt. Same diameter same length different pitch (1.25)

Thanks to dogee for posting the correction

So to the original poster dejan_da_dude the bolt 07 11 9 900 630 has stated by doogee is the one you will need.

Mark.
