track car suspension

I'm sure I'm about 1 year away from being able to afford it, but building a dedicated track car, for non-competition use...

What are some good options for track suspensions out there, should I just go with bilstein sport shocks and some H&R Race springs, or should I step it up a notch and get some 2-3 way adjustable coil overs? If so, who makes a decent set, where can I get them and how much?

just feeling it out right now, this year I'm concentrating on the body/roll cage and possibly fuel cell.

Let me know what you think, or if you have any tried and tested experience with any track suspension setups... This is going to be dedicated track car, not worried about street use...

No experience with coilovers but there's lots here that do. Obviously the adjustability and ability to go lower help if you want to fine tune anything on the track.

I'm on Koni SAs with IE3 springs and I have no complaints, great setup. Similar to the one you mentioned.

While starting out, the H&R Race/Bilstein combo will be a great start, and you won't have to worry about setting anything, just drive. There are a lot more things that will have a greater influence your laptimes, mostly tires and seat time. I managed to pull off some great laptimes in a stock weight, H&R Race/Bilstein based setup in my old car, and I'd recommend it time and time again as a good budget, yet track useable setup. Anything more, I'd hope you are building to try and fit into a specific ruleset, or else its just money that could be spent elsewhere. Also, if you don't need to, skip the fuel cell. Nothing wrong with the stock tank aside from the occasional starvation issues which are easily remedied.

I already have the sport shocks and sport springs in my street car, I think its a good compromise, currently using my street car for open lap days, trying to not wreck it too much, did my first run last year and got the bug, since then I've got an already built up SETA with the I head, all machine rebuilt and pretty with transmission and headers, a 4.10lsd a shell and a race seat... i find it funny that spent more money on a race seat than I did for the entire shell .

Anyhow, like I said, don't think I'll be completing the build this year, as I'm also trying to save up for a wedding,... So, that's gonna slow down my build I'm sure... Just trying to forecast out what else I'll need to spend money on, and how to get it signed off and approved by my finance..., I mean fiancee...

Any opinion on J-Stock shocks and struts from Turner Motor Sports?

Awesome setup. I had J Stocks for one summer, and street drove them too. Awesome on track, nothing bad to say about it from a performance standpoint, but its really stiff. If I were to do it again, I'd only put these shocks into a car that has the cage tied into the suspension points (but then again, most serious track cars already take this route when it comes to cage design).

Keep in mind that J-Stock suspension was designed for J-Stock class that assumes close to stock weight of the car.

^^^ Not a huge problem. Just talk to Turner about your set up and they can match shocks and springs for your application. Chances are all you will need is shorter and maybe slightly softer springs.

I have unknown model H&R springs with Koni Yellow shocks on my daily driven and tracked car. I suspect the springs are H&R sport not race as they feel a little soft on the track. The Konis, even on their softest setting, are still a little hard for the street but nice on the track. Paired with stiffer springs I think the Konis would make a good setup for strictly track.

I would like to get a set of Bilsteins sports n the future as I like the idea of being able to rebuild and re-valve them myself. You have to send the Yellows back to Koni to get re-valved.
