Question 325ix m3 swap....

Can a m3 swap be done on a ix? Also I heard the handling on the ix sucks... True?

You see that drive shaft the goes through the oil pan? There is no swap that can be done and keep the awd

I've read on other forums of people swapping 5.0's and e36 engines into them? The current motor has 212,000 moles so like +36,000 km:s with a suspected blown head... So what would you suggest? Just weighing out my options :p

There is no e36 motor that can keep the awd system same with a v8 swap

Well unless you can engineer an oil pan to bolt the front diff on and run an axle shaft through.

You loose the awd system with those swaps.

Your looking at turbo or s/c for big power, but then you have a car that's 3wd, cause its an open front diff, so not sure how well it will work, also not sure what power the viscous transfer case and viscous LSD can handle.

its been done in a e30 too. goa tta use a m50 525ix oilpan or fab up a custom one out of the m5x/s5x and m20 ix one. there's a vid on youtube somewhere, a shop in the US did it (i think called midnight motorworks, or something like that)

ix handles fine. its like a fat e30

I knew it could be done! Seems like a costly option though

Handling does not suck, I have tracked mine and its fine, its amazing in the wet. Like Propr'one said, its a fat e30, it will under steer considerably more, but that just warrants driving it differently.
If you want to do a swap, its takes alot of work/money.

To spin all 4 wheels, you would need a significant amount of power. My 320awhp WRX would spin through first if I launched off a the ALS. It wouldn't spin into second. My friend 600awhp EVO had a open front diff and would spin half way into second on a sticky tire.

An M20 would highly unlikely make enough power to have an issue with traction. And if it did, it would be something a good tire could fix, or it would, like you said, break drivetrain parts.

AWD ftw...

And a DOHC swap can be done on an iX>
