Oh God... don't open this can of worms regarding oil in the S62! Lol.
Funny. Mentioning "What oil?" on M5Board is akin to muttering the words of the devil in the Vatican.

Mine clearly states 5W40/5W30 as Windwagen posted.

Strange - the only (weak) explanation I can think of is the model year...
Assuming the screen shot is from his own manual, bmwm5lover 2000 calls for the 10w60, but our later model year -2002 - indicates the lover viscosity.

Yea I was surprised as well, I got this info from BMW , I assumed all m's used 10 60 especially since my previous experience w 01 m3

Yes, my manual. Production date on mine is 06/00 (after supposed ring design change).

Build dates on or past Mar 2000 had newer piston ring designs.
I think it was at that time BMW suggested to not use 10W60 anymore.
