I'd rather see those that purposely run the late yellows and those that follow those late runners get tagged big time than texting infractions.

Btw here is a hint, would't it be easier/safer to call that person on handsfree/speaker instead of texting? It's still a better way to go even if you are calling pricey long distance. It will still end up being cheaper and save the the headache.

The texting part of the laws make sense to me, your eyes are completely off the road...it's the handsfree thing that I find stupid, it's not the act of holding the phone to your ear that's dangerous behind the wheel, it's the fact that your concentration isn't on the road, it's on your conversation

Plus with all these distracted driving laws getting put into place, why aren't they pulling over the kids driving with their hoddies up? Their vision is totally compromised!

Bit late on this one, but good luck. Next time, I'd lawyer up (if you didn't already), but you don't have any other tickets so the impact will be minimal. Hopefully it'll just get tossed.

Considering he admitted to it, his only hope is that the cop didn't show.

very hard to fight a distraction ticket, best he can hope for is the cop not showing or get fined no conviction....again point doesnt matter to the insurance companies that is really for the MTO it convictions that mess with your rates.

Yup. ANY ticket affects your insurance, and it gets ridiculously expensive even after 2. This is why I lawyer up every time now. The cost of a lawyer is the cost of 1-2 months of insurance premium increase if it goes on your record. It's a no brainer.

this is still illegal, i've seen someone get a ticket for this (you are not allowed to interact with any device capable of sending and receiving messages)

Want to hear something funny... my friend has almost 10 speeding tickets of less than 15 over.. (minor tickets) his insurance has never jumped within the 3 years..

I feel like minor offenses don't seem to impact the insurance companies, or hes just somehow lucky.

Cop showed.. i ended up getting prosecutor to lower the charge from 155 to 60..
my hope was
1. he wouldn't send me the disclosure (he did)...his writing is horrible
2. he wouldn't show, but he did.

155 to 60?

Your friend is probably lucky his ins company hasn't pulled his abstract to see the tickets. That or tickets fall off as he gets new ones.

Edit. Ohh nvm you ment cost. Thought you ment speed.

Are you saying there are instances where they cut deals where you pay a fine but get no conviction on your record? Or am I interpreting this wrong?

I have a ticket I'm facing right now for not having a 407 transponder in a commercial vehicle. As I understand it a minor conviction is a minor conviction as far as insurance goes. I'd happily pay the $110 or whatever it is if I knew a conviction wouldn't be registered on my record...
