The sooner you lock it up the less likely you are to hit the wall. Most wall hits are on the inside of the corner, not the outside. This is due to the driver attempting to correct the spin and failing. This is a classic example, had the driver locked the brakes up without correcting the spin the car I don't think it would have even left the road.
