Brake pad sensor

So I had the brake pad sensor go off last night (red hoist light with hand brake light up), I figured the sensor was tripped by the wear on the pads. But this morning when I started the car it was clear. I did a visual inspection and the pads are fairly low but not down to the bone yet.

I know that once the pad sensor gets tripped its roasted..so I am wondering if anyone else had any false alarms with this? Does not make sense that the light would be off today unless it was faulty.

Yes very common those sensors touch the brake disc around 80 % left and the reisistance vaulve is picked up from the computer so visualy check how many mm left??

So I had the car taken for a brake inspection and they confirmed the fronts have 65% and rears have 55%..this is consistent with that the OBC service interval shows.

But the light keeps coming back on randomly.

Any way to fix it? Are the sensors the problem?

Thing is the sensors start touching the pads at 80% so u cant really cant do much :-( just gotta wait till u need new pads

The thing is, the sensor wires can wiggle around a little bit, dirt and moisture can find their way into the chassis harness plugs. Corrosion can make the plug contacts weak and the circuit can open up, causing the light to go on. Check to make sure the connections are clean and tight. The light will only come on when the sensor wears through the wire, creating an open circuit. unless you're completely through a wire, your plug connections are weak.
