BMW X1 2.8 fuel consumption

Hello!
There may well have been discussion on the subject already but as a newcomer to forum I would like to ask for fuel consumption experiences on X1 2.8. Our car is year and a half old and has had since beginning quite enormous fuel consumption, 15,3 ltr/100km. BMW promises 10,2 ltr in city. Our drive is 95% city drive and we live in Montreal halfway Mont Royal in a hill. So a lot of up and down driving and of course endless amount of stop and go crossings. But still, 15,3 liters feels enormous to me. The dealer said that in the beginning the consumption is typically high but will come down after first 3000km. It hasn't, 8600km now on the mileage. Trying just a highway drive we got consumption down to 6,7 ltr/100km.
Anyone having similar experience? Is it normal for a small car like this to use fuel like a lorry

If you are getting 6.7 on the highway, that should tell you something.
When you are doing 95% city driving, up and down hill its not surprising.
Another thing is that you dont drive much, 8600Km in a year and half is nothing. So means short distance, the car probably does not even have time to warm up fully, and this will increase consumption too! So after all, 15.3 from a pretty heavy car with 6 cyl is normal...and i also assume its auto!

Thanks, guess you are right. Still it makes me wonder a bit because the X1 is 2100kg car and our Mercedes R is close to 3000kg and it's average consumption has been steadily around 10,6ltr/100km. It is a diesel so that explains a lot and it has a bit more highway drive too. Not a lot though, mainly city drive in same area with Mercedes also. Perhaps the X1 just is more sensitive to driving conditions. We're here on temporary basis from Europe so everything above 8ltr is extremely high for us and cars are going home with us once we head back to old continent again some year.
One of the wonders of Canada when we came here was that all cars have huge engines and almost nobody uses block heaters Very nice country though

I dont know, a 2012 R350 shows CURB WEIGHT 4960 lbs...so 2249kg...nowhere close to 3ton...And its Diesel, and its used more on highway!

If you want to have a real comparison, switch cars for a month, and see how the driving environment impacts fuel consumption!
