Hankook Tires??

heyo,

So I ultimately need to get some winter rubber and some summer rubber.

I was thinking Hankook W409 iPikes for the winter and the Ventus V12's for summer?..

Reviews are looking good.. anyone care to help me set my mind on these Hankooks? They seem like a good bang for the buck and I wanna set my mind on something because looking for tires is a pain in the ass.

Ventus V12's I got these on my M5 and the wet/dry performance is amazing, and you can't beat the price!

I did a bunch of the same research you probably have and decided to get the Ventus V12s. I'm very happy with them.

I have the V12's for summer and the iPike's for winter and I couldn't be happier with the performance and value these have.

I also have V12's for the summer and W409 for winter. Hands down the best combo to get you through the seasons considering price and performance. Completely recommend to anyone looking at new tires.

The only sub for the v12's would be star specs, if you can get them at a good price. You could also look at the R-S3's if you want a bit more grip.

What are you really planning on doing? Autocross? road track? drifting? or just some spirited driving?

Thanks for making my mind up guys.. my girlfriend will be thankful she doesn't have to listen to me about wet weather traction and tread patterns.. Looks like Hankook is the way to go..

DANIMAL: I'm going to use them for daily/spirited driving.. although its hard nowadays with a cop pointing a radar gun at you every 5 seconds in Toronto..

Another question I have is that I am putting a size 225/45/17 on a staggered set of OEM 17" rims (8F and 8.5R) as the iPikes can fit a width of 8.5... so the rims are slightly staggered but the tires are not.. how would rotating work with this?

I see that they are directional.. so I don't think I can rotate them at all... or can I?

So I just spoke to a guy at a tire store.. who informed me that T rated tires like the w409 i*Pike are not the best to put on V rated cars.. but instead to opt for H rated tires cus they're compatible with V?? I don't get this.. Any advice?

I've had the W409s for two winters now, never any problems.

Perfect setup for daily/spirited driving.

The tire guy is just trying to upsell you on pricier tires.

A speed rating, is a speed rating, doesn't make a difference if you don't plan on driving at those max tire rated speeds.

T = 190km/h max
H = 210km/h max
V = 240km/h max

All rated for speeds not legal anywhere in the North America. So unless your planning on spending lots of track time on Winter tires, I'd go for the iPikes

Generally for winter, it's acceptable to go down one speed. Most BMW come with a minimum 91H speed rating, so going T-rated is okay. But I wouldn't recommend going with T-rated if you have a 330i, or 335i, as they put out a bit more power...

Also, putting the same size on the staggered rims is okay, you can't rotate them unless they are dismounted from the rims.

FYI, Hankook prices are increasing July 1st, 2011.

hankook ipikes are amazing, i have a set for the winter and they work out great!
