Installing GROM Audio ipod/aux adapter

I'm trying to install this in my 2007 X3. I removed the radio and pulled the harness but where GROM wants me to connect their harness, there is already a 12 pin connector. See the photo. Where the white connector is on the top left is where they want me to connect the GROM. Anyone connect one of these before?

The white connection comes off, take it out, and plug in the kit instead.

If you have a external CD changer anywhere in the car, it will get disabled.

I did exactly that and the radio no longer worked. It powered up but there was no sound. Waiting on a reply from Grom Audio but their customer service isn't exactly stellar.
