Question Low wattage conversion kit for headlights??

Hi there, I recently put an HID kit in my stock 94 325i headlights. The HID's are in the low beam slot. My question now is, how can I get a light to just glow in the high beam slot. I've seen this on many Volkswagens Jetta's (pre 1999) and am wondering if it can be done to a e36. I doubt it has anything to do with the actual bulb. I need a dim glow that spreads very little light throughout the high beam head light slot. (Preferably a yellow glow)

Is there some sort of conversion kit I need?, A transformer? Maybe a special bulb? Any thing like that.

Thanks.

you will need to install city lights for the glow effect your looking for. Euro spec headlights have the city lights built in, but below is a link for the DIY on stock e36 lights

Hope this helps.

You can wire this up from your corners, the 2nd lead on the 1157 bulb should be always on. You can probably spare the wattage just running it right off that circuit without changing anything provided you use a low (10-15W) bulb.

Thanks remoe36! I finally know how to do this. I'm going to give it a try this weekend (if I get all the part by then) and maybe post some pics of the finished product lol.

The DIY was super helpful.

Yes I plan to wire them up to my corners, that way they'll always be on and I wont have to fiddle around with any switches that way either. They be my day time running lights lol.

The car's been a garage queen for the last three years and has not been driven on the road so I haven't blinded any traffic just quite yet lol and remoe36's way seems most appropriate for me since I don't want to change or add much. I may decide to "do it right" later on though lol.

I couldn't wait till the weekend so I decided to get the 194 sockets and 194 bulbs today. I got super lucky because the 194 sockets that I picked up fit directly into the stock 94 headlights. The high beam slot hole was the same size as the 194 socket lol. I didn't drill any holes because I didn't need to. The HID's are hocked up to the high beam wiring so that way I have a switch for them, and the 194 sockets are hocked up to the amber's but they're in the high beam slot. The bulbs i'm using now are standard color road legal bulbs and are 4.5W each. (i plan to order some yellow ones.)
