Do you have any POR-15 or other rust paint? I'd coat the back of them in something like that, especially the sharp edges. The primer coating on them is very thin. Then paint the front surface as you normally would.

just updating.... ive been working mostly on selling my caddy, and e28, ive found another imported 520i in montreal that i will be going to look at this weekend... hopefuly ill be coming back with another import

I think some people used to use those to help find the corner of their car, for use when parking, etc. But maybe a flag pole.. You could certainly throw a german flag on it and cause ruckus.
