e39 M5s in the early years burn a lot of oil. 1L every 700-800 is a lot and on the high side. It will need a rebuild soon.

I am going by what my E34 M5 manual states, except it's put as such "oil usage up to 150ml per 100km is considered normal". What it really means is 1.5L/1000km

And this which is specific to the S62 http://ebookbrowse.com/117454d128629...pdf-d283931337

Wow, that's nuts... I wonder if it could be related to how loose these engines are built and people flogging them when cold. I always had a feeling that people who complained about burning oil just had leaky S38s, guess not. Mine wasn't in great shape and didn't lose more than 1L every oil change (5k).

For some reason BMW has always had absurdly high oil consumption limits... I never understood how anyone could think that 1L/1000km is considered "normal" never mind BMW's 1.5L/1000km.

My last car was a twin turbo engine and at the most after 6-7k I would be down a 1/4 of a liter.

That said, I'm already not interested in this car anymore... It's 2012 people, post up-to date information and pictures of what you're trying to sell. It's not rocket science that people want to see what is wrong with the car and posting pictures of the car when you got it xx years ago when it was in mint condition doesn't help your case.
