Take the gauges and S/C off, put the stock wheels on. Someone on here must have a stock steering wheel. That should be good enough.

What I don't understand is how all the exotic cars get plated in Quebec then...I mean a F430 is basically a race car and one of the biggest Ferrari dealerships in Canada (second only to Vancouver) is in Montreal.

Maybe you should tell them a story about how you're moving back to Quebec to get away from the imperialist fascist dogs in Ontario so they instantly love you and will do anything to get you back??

I would seriously look into calling the powers that be in Quebec to find out what specific rule your car is in breach of and keep trying at different inspection places until you get someone who isn't brain dead to pass it.

I wish you the best of luck!

I think it comes down to the fact that Ferrari built the F430 to be that way and it was proven to be a safe car.

BMW (unfortunately) didn't build an E30 the way that Denny's car is currently. It has been modified from original in a way that they must feel could be unsafe.

That being said that doesn't mean I agree with it. There's no doubt that with the amount of time, thought and money that went into Denny's car, it has to be better then the majority of E30's on the road right now... Mine included.

Worth a shot.

Don't give up, it'll work out eventually.

I also agree that if you talk to the right people and go to the right garage, you can work everything out. I remember when I passed my inspection (bought a 325is e30 from london) in québec, I first brought it to a random place. While i was waiting, people were impressed on how clean the car seemed but then I talked to the inspector and he was saying since its old it won't pass easily and whatnot. They ended up closing the place with like 15 minutes left (since they close at 5h00 at it would take more time than usual since its 20 years old)
I didn't feel confortable letting them do the inspection due to their behavior so I left and found another accredited garage that was really kind. Pointed out about 6-7 little things and told me exactly how he wanted the stuff fixed (had couple small holes in the floor, he told me to just screw in a plate to cover them). Fixed everything and came back, done deal. When I passed it I had my H&R and Bilstein on already, he said nothing about them.

Are you trying to pass it in Gatineau? if so try these guys : https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=map+ga...314.29,,0,9.11

You my friend are right on spot of the main problem. I love the feel of manual brakes and steering but I am also stronger then the average guy too so for me its no big deal. I didn't see it as unsafe more like a preference...

But the guy was not resonable at all.... even my stockish heigh new KYB shocks and new VOGtland springs was too much for this guy..he said the car had no rebound..... my girlfriends 2012 WRX has no rebound so WTF?!? My E30 rides very very smooth over bumps and turns amazing..

So I knew this guy just didnt want my car on the road

I tried to deal with them...but they simply refused to even bother trying to safety it (it was that bad) good thing they didnt charge me or else that would of been a war zone in there.

I wish somebody knew a "guy" somewhere that could help me...I have $$$ to compensate...what I don't have is time right now.

In that case, since you have no time, I would probably just drive it to Qc City, leave it in the driveway until you're done moving then I would deal with it!

Its looking more and more like that right now. Once there I will need to buy another car already Quebec plated as my 1989 E34 535i (wont pass safety as well in QC that why the owner sold it to me very cheap) for me it was ok since it got me threw winter and works really well with only 165K on the odometer and I had plans to do a M30 conversion on another E30 project I want to do.

In a perfect world I would have 2 E30 (one twincharged and one M30 all motor) and a E34 for winter.

Denny your car rides to harsh? Thats ridiculous, I drove your car and its not by any means stiff. The steering isnt hard at all once you're moving. I think you got the guy on a bad day. Try in Papineau, if time is an issue, Ill bring it for you.

Yeah that really got me when he said that..I mean if he would of taken 30 seconds to put my car on the hoist he would of seen and at least drove it more then 20 feet he would of understood.

Bad day...nah I think he's just a hater for modified cars.

thanks for the offer buddy I appreciated it We will see how things go i'm looking at every option right now...

It'll work out O.K. Really.
Go somewhere else, get a different guy on a different day.

Speaking as an ex-inspector (different technology, not cars) one guy's Dangerous is the next guy's Acceptable. It's often a judgement call.
If your car is safe and does all the things that a car is supposed to do like stop, steer, light up and protect the occupants then you will find an inspector that will pass it.
Your guy was probably just jealous.
Don't push the next guy, don't complain, don't get angry, just have your facts ready. Read the rules, know what they're looking for and be ready to show patiently how your car complies. There has to be an appeal process, show that you know what it it is and how to get into it. Let him grumble, be prepared to wait. You need his signature and have to understand that he takes it seriously.

I like the "deal with it later" option, too. 3-year-olds don't wait, and Quebec City in June is great. Congratulations on your new life!

If you need to borrow parts like seats or belts or something I've got a pair of E30s you can borrow from, and I'm in Ottawa.
