There are no bad jobs..

LOL

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Monday new rule changes to define "suitable employment" and "reasonable" efforts at finding work have yet to come down, but as far as he's concerned people should be prepared to take pretty well any available job.
so basically if you're making $100K a year and get laid off, no EI For you for that 1 year while you look.... go work at McDicks, because you know, no job is a bad job.

I think good on them. Working is still working. No matter what kind of job you once had. I believe that if you made over 100$k a year, you wouldn't be working at a McDonald lol. Use some connections!

I'm with Steve on this one. EI is a last resort IMO.

Only the lazy WANT to be on it.

I know too many horror stories of people losing the drive to find a job with easy EI to be had...

you can only collect EI in certain situations like getting laid-off. If you get fired, even if your paying EI, you wont get a penny.

^^exactly. Also, the MAXIMUM amount someone can collect on EI is 21K a year. Plus, depending on the employment rate in your area, you can only collect EI for 20-30 weeks.

Finally, EI is NOT A GOVERNMENT FUNDED PROGRAM. It is an insurance policy you pay into.

Personally, because my contract was just terminated... I understand where some people are coming from... Who wants to be highly educated and trained in a specific way only to go back to lets say working at starbucks...

The answer is not so black and white... Plus having free time is awesome!

Insurance policies are all abused. I'd say half of the people on this forum probably lie(d) in some way on their auto insurance. (Insuring your mother as a primary driver on a vehicle that is driven 95% by you = lying.)

Jimmyboy should focus on trying to stimulate job creation/growth. Cutting down on EI fraud is a good idea. Making people take jobs they are completely overqualified isn't. End of story.

actually you can get it up to 50 weeks but it depends on different circumstances. Fathers friends go 50 weeks because hes been working for the same company for 13 years and they laid him off .. in his age it would be hard to get a job so i think they extended it.
