Heat shield
My spark plug heat shield which seems to be made of asbestos has deteriated to the point where there are several holes in it and my dealer said no comprende when I tried to order another. Does anyone do without one or is there a new kind that uses something else as an insulator.

those are most probably original. they last a long time as long as you don't get oil on them. They are available from the dealership. Your parts guy is just an idiot!. they are all made of similar material. you can run the car without as I do have one with them rotted off, but not original looking. Besides, you'll need to remove the 12 nuts that are most probably rusted on and chances are you'll most probably remove some of the studs before the nuts give.

I ordered them from autopartsway.ca once upon a time, not sure if they still carry them though. They used to have all sorts of OEM parts, now not so much.

No, he's saying that the stud will back out before the nut breaks free. You carefully remove the nut from the stud, replace it in the head.

if you break a stud, weld a nut onto it, then pull the stud out

Did all the manifold nuts come off
Or did any of the studs turn out. did you reuse the nuts or get new ones.

No, 2 nuts were welded on. The rest were okay, the studs came out on some of them though.
