E39 '02 wide angle mirror glass
Hi guys,
I'm looking for confirmation of BMW part #'s for the European wide angle (or aspheric) mirror glass for both side mirrors on a '02 530. I found the following numbers online in various locations, but our good friend Mike at Maranello BMW isn't sure that these parts numbers are for the E39, he says these numbers only show up on his system as E36 and E46 3 Series.
#51 16 8 119 724 Aspheric mirror glass [pre-9/97]
#51 16 8 250 438 Aspheric mirror glass [9/97+]
I also tried realoem.com and the second number appears to be correct for my application, but I don't want to spend the cash if it's wrong, since I won't be able to return them.
I'd also appreciate it if anyone can verify that the mirrors are in fact interchangeable from side to side, just rotate 180º and you have both L and R mirrors?
Thanks!
Jonathan

Thanks Mark, that's comforting to know that someone can confirm fitment with the e36/e46 with the e39. Am I right to assume the L and R mirrors are interchangeable?

No L and R mirrors are not interchangable.

I'm specifically looking for the European wide-angle mirrors, which are #1 on the realoem.com website link I originally supplied. I think the standard NA versions are R - #3 convex w/ writing at bottom, L - #4 no increased viewing angle w/o writing. I want to know, can the #1 wide-angle mirrors be used on both the R and L sides (just rotated 180 degrees)?

Depending on if you have LCI or non LCI car you would pick one of the part numbers. Both sides will use same mirror you just flip them over. I have confirmed this for lci model only.
If there was a L and R there would be separate part numbers.

Thanks porksoda! I've got a '02 530, so I assume that's a LCI car - right?

Yup. I have the euro ones and i got them from getbmwparts in us (they don't ship to us).
You would order these:
Part Number: 51168250438 - MIRR GLASS WDANG
Make sure to confirm everything before ordering. Easy to pry off the existing mirrors and you can see the housing and mirror tabs are all symmetrical and can be flipped over to install L to R and vice versa.

Ah ok,... I have no experience with BMW wide angle mirrors, if they are anything like the wide angle ones on the R side of my Porsche... the distortion make me sick if I backup using them and haven't driven the car in a while.

I suppose I could take the Porsche off your hands... just so you don't feel sick anymore.
