I know the car you're talking about.. It all depends on what you want to do, do you want to keep the motor OBDII (which is what i'm doing cuz i've got a donor) or you can convert it to OBD-I like "cormier" is doing to his S motor. But you'll most likely need a wiring adapter or make your own, an e36 328 drive shaft if you're using the zf, e28 motor mounts or the custom made poly. ones they sell for the swap, low ratio diff for that zf, and smaller brake booster (e30ix, e21, Porsche 944 etc..) or you'll need to move the stock one over and go through a bunch of BS to make the motor fit, e34 525 M50 throttle cable (some people use thier stock ones, seem to get mixed opinions about this). You'll also need all the sensors for the motor either obd1 or obd2 depending on what you go with. If you go obd1 you'll need a bunch of obd1 parts and sensors to convert your motor like fuel rail, MAF, throttle body and what not (cormier can list those for you) and you'll need a 413 red label DME i believe, again not sure if you'll need an EWS delete chip or not cormier or someone else can confirm that. If you go OBDII you'll need the obdII sensors, and you'll need the OBDII DME, you'll also need to flash/tune to delete EWS, the extra O2 sensors and all the annoying obd2 extras. That should cover the basics, just what i can think of off the top of my head, any body can feel free to add on to it or correct me. You've also gotta keep in mind that the m52 will add a little extra strain on the suspension (+60lbs weight and a lot more torque ) so you're gonna want to upgrade OEM suspension to get her handling properly, also you'll want to add some more stopping power, maybe upgrade the exhaust.. those are all things you want to keep in mind when doing the swap, specially when you'll have the car gutted already, it's usually a good time to get at some of these things. Good Luck!

Wow what a monster knowledge post that's a pretty thorough list!

Parts vary, you really want to make up a list of exactly what you need based on taking a look at what's included/not. Then once you know what pieces are missing, find out which brand or whatever you want, and start looking around. There's a few supporting vendors (rebirth, Eurostyle) that may have some. Otherwise, eBay, r3vlimited, bimmerforums, classifieds on here are great places for used parts. For new parts there are lots of aftermarket sites (turner, vac, pelican, treehouse, akg, bavauto, etc) that specialize in bmws. Of course, for most things OEM, mike@maranello takes care of us well.

Big decisions to be made before buying parts. Is your wiring stock (obd2?) do you have any desire to do obd1 conversion, or manifold, or any other bolt ons? Motor have accessories? What does the shell need?

There is another m52 for sale as well on the classifieds, from a great e30 that may be worth looking into if the stuff that comes with your shell isn't complete.

read the monster 100+ page thread on r3v under the dohc 24v swap subforum. Almost every question you could possibly have is answered within, so even though it'll take you hours to read through, its worth it.

Agreed, informative but hard to break into sections. It would be a great project for someone to compile into notes, add some more specifics and publish it together

http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=129

The thread is the 83 page sticky there

Parts I used (M50NV)
- 92 m50nv (i know yours is an m52)
-E34 m50 oil pan, dipstick and tube
- VW Golf MKII brake booster
- e28 535i motor mounts
- e36 rad or 88+ e30 rad and overflow bottle
- you need, I believe an m3 drive shaft

Negative on the motor mounts. E34 m5/525i with modification and e36 arms. There are also specific swap mounts by akg, revshift, etc.

Driveshaft depends on the tranny. There's tons of variety-- read the wiki some info in there. Find out the length that you want, and make sure the one you get is that length

Like stated above there are so many ways to do it. I used my getrag 260 with a 5mm shaved flywheel and all of my stock drivetrain.

You sure its the e34 mounts we're supposed to use, i could've swore they were e28 535 / M5 mounts.. i could be wrong..
nonetheless those are the ones i ordered for my swap http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=230154. you're also going to want to use the drive shaft that came with that tranny, referring to the wiki link posted above, The ZF 310 and 320 both have a 96 mm BCD output flanges, you're gonna want a drive shaft to match those outputs, the site also states "The E30 M3, 6/86+ E30 325e, 96+ E36 M3, 96+ E36 328i, and E36 328is have 96 mm bolt circle diameter (BCD) input flanges on their driveshafts. The E30 325i, <6/86 325e, and E36 325i have 78 mm bolt circle diameter input flanges on their driveshafts."... So pretty much you use the driveshafts from.. E30 M3, 96+ M3, E36 328 (not 325), or Eta's made after 6/86.. and you'll wanna the E30 center support mounted backwards on the E36 drive shafts according to other sources..

nah you're right. those mounts are literally plug and play...just need to be installed backwards!
and with the ZF tranny, im pretty sure that you must use an automatic 328i driveshaft.
