Thanks for the help guys appreciate it, but I managed to grab one today.
If anyone has a diff though I am on the hunt, it is the last thing I need to get this project rolling.

Open, and the lowest ratio possible ideally.
You have any diffs you want to part with?
And a question about oil, I know this topic has been beaten to death, but did you run anything specific for your break in period?
I usually run 15-50 Mobil 1 synthetic, was just going to stick to that.

My buddy has a 3.91 open diff - is that too short?
For break in, I did this: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm and ran the crappiest dino oil I could find (Formula 1 i think - from CT), then right after, switched to AMSOIL 20W50.
I used the dyno strategy but did it on an airport runway, without the cool-down in between (since I was actually driving, cooling wasn't an issue).

Awesome thanks for the info, I will read it over.
Nah I need something like a 2.93, I just sold the 3.91 I had in it. I have a 5 hour drive to the cottage every weekend I want to be able to cruise comfortably.

So I got everything put back together, fired it up and it started!
Except its throwing code 1281, which is DME controle module memory supply. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Car also wont idle and is running pretty rough.

I was getting that same code when I rebuilt my engine.... basically you just have to have the ECU cleared. It has to do with having the ECU disconnected with the key on or something like that.

You either need a Peake code reader, or a BMW code reader

Once I get a diff I think I will drive it over to BMW and get them to clear it. I realized last night I hooked up the idle controller wrong and put both hoses into the manifold instead of one in the manifold and one in the rubber elbow before the throttle body.
Only thing I am missing now is the hose that goes into the hole at the bottom of the manifold closest to the firewall. Not the idle controller or the Intake Temp Sensor but there is a third hole, any ideas?

Fixed the hose it idles now. It's just running rough and really rich. Did yours do the same before you cleared the dme?
