E30 Front Strut Size
Hey,
Kind of a newbie to the E30 / Bimmer world still,
Now just wondering if anyone can tell me what size the struts are on my car, i have a 1984 325E 2 door 6 Cylinder,
I believe they are 51mm struts, because i am looking to buy some coilovers and they all ask if i have 51mm struts or not.

don't think so...more like 45mm unless your car came with sport suspension and therefore you would have 51mm on the car. you'll have to remove the strut and measure it.

Ya i looked it up and apparently it did come with 51mm struts all the 6 cylinder models came with 51mm struts and the 318 and 320 came with the 45mm struts, ill have to double check and measure them,
Where do i measure them?

It's pretty rare to see anything but 51mm, as far as I know only early model 318i had em. Either way, just measure the width of a strut that is on the car now...

Check out bc coilovers. No need for strut measuring. The coilovers come as a whole. They just need to be welded onto your existing knuckles.
I just finished some research on e30 coils. Stay away from eBay no name crap. However there is a company called CX racing, and although I couldn't find an e30 review on them, other people have used then on different vehicles and they get nothing but good reviews. Apparently they are made in the same warehouse as BC and TIEN.
Search e30 bc coilover review on google and it should come up on the first page. It's on r3v or e30tech. Can't remember. Jay at stance factory can set you up with a set. Great guys to deal with.

Some of the early 84 etas indeed had 45mm struts. Best to check your production date first, or, as Woofer said buy a suspension that comes with a full strut assembly.

It is possible to measure it -- I had 45 and recently went to 51 for the availability of struts -- not many people have early model stuff for sale. If you have 45, 51 is a bolt on mod.
