Exclamation Is this car worth me buying

Hey guys, Im looking at buying a 2000 323ci for 5.5k this weekend, the guys says motor is completely rebuilt but doesnt have much on his post. car is a nice blue with blue window tint and looks clean from the one picture he posted.

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/3%20S...o/19_4868772_/

is the link.

If you guys know anyone selling a Black on Black 2000 or newer for less then 7k let me know, id much prefer Black over Blue.

I got my new job last year and I am making more money then i ever thought i would and I have always wanted a nice car. So seeing as im currently driving a old 97 Golf that I hate, I thought I should upgrade.

Thanks!

A. Why was the motor rebuilt? And the car recently painted? Those are red flags to me

B. it's a 323-- I know the coupes look very nice but you won't be as happy as you would with a 330 or even 325, some of which are going for under 7k

C. if you ARE set on this car, considering its a 323 and it's history you should be able to push him lower. There are clean, higher model e46s going for just a bit more than that

Have some patience and look around good and hard! You'll find the right one!

k thanks, thats what ive been using though for the past 4 months and this is the best deal ive seen.

I talked to the guy and he said that he babied and maintaned the car and he rebuilt the motor piece by piece over time and he wanted to get it painted, so the paint could be a year or so old, and the motor could already have 10-60k on it.

Anything in particular i should look at when i go check it out?

other then underbody and exterior/interior condition and firing it up.

Thanks in advance

I don't see why he would rebuild a 323 for no reason and paint the whole car? I don't think that adds up unless he blew up the motor or smashed into a pole head first. Check the carfax lol.

Keep an eye for body panels not lining up, etc and see if it's a quick enough car for you

Thanks, I will definitely keep an eye out for that.

I plan on making whatever i get quick, 300whp atleast. Ive torn up racetracks in 600+ whp Late Models.

Whats so wrong with a 323 though, is it only a 4 banger?? i thought they were all 2.5l i6's but I dont know, Im new to BMWs if you cant tell.

If you want a reliable 300whp, get an M3... add a few odds and ends, and you are there. You will be spending a retarded amount of money to get a 323 even up to par with a stock M3. Not to mention, its probably not going to be as reliable or worth as much either.

And yes, the 323 is a 2.5 inline 6.

Oh, that I was unaware of.

Well maybe ill just keep it stock then and do some visual upgrades and just enjoy it.
I am only 20 using my own money this will be a great starter BMW, and if I like it enough I will one day upgrade to a M3 or something better.

Its a big upgrade from my golf eitherway so I'm not to worried, my commute to work is 40-90 mins, depending on time that I start/end so the performance and the luxury is going to make it a lot nicer of a drive which is worth it for me. Plus my golf only gets 400km to a 60$ tank.

Drive late models eh? 323 will definitely be a bit slow in comparison :p

300 whp is unrealistic IMO from that motor, better off gettin an m3. Or if you can settle for a bit less, get a 330.

I'll keep playing the devils advocate, lol 323 is slow as molasses and worthless IMO unless you're looking for another golf -- it really won't be that much faster :p

Okay I found this, and he had more pictures up before, i guess his deal fell through and he reposted. The pictures he had before showed all angles with no damage so assuming it just scratched the door but he had it fixed.

dude... if the car ain't clean... walk away...
if its too good to be true... walk away...

I would start at 2003+ (MY2002/10).

Unless you are 100% sure the previous owner took care of the car, I wouldn't touch the earlier models.

The dealership is a half decent spot, but when i went there... they really didn't know much about the car and were showing me the tires and rims instead of the engine specs. :p
