he maybe could've tried to go wide but coming out of that corner he probably had limited grip anyway.

Probably was squeezed on either side so he couldn't bail in time. At least his initial hit was a front end impact which has the most impact absorbing protection.

I dont think he missed him....

he came aroudn the corner in traffic...was flying...then when yellow car became visible he tried to turn tighter and got on the brakes hard(locking up) and went into it...i mean he couldve tried to go wide but maybe others were right next to him so he had no wehre to go?
Its a pretty hairy situation and once you make your move you are in it...no second chances.

its not like it was open track with no one around/lots of visibility. his reaction from seeing car to breaking was pretty good.

Nothing can help you at that speed. It looks like he got out in time though as the fire was going out of control pretty quick.
