Thank you, it was one of mine as well.

In that vein: I was in my first year at UNB when the E39 M5 came out. I instantly fell in love with everything about it. It was revered for being the fastest 4-door saloon in the world at that time, capable of 190Mph.

The lines, the interior, the 400HP 5.0L V8... This was at a time when the 4.6L in the Mustang Cobra was making 320HP.

But, being a poor student, the prospect of owning a car like that, well, yeah, a pipe dream.

So over a decade later, I've got three kids and am thinking about buying a new Mustang (03/04 Cobra) because my 5.0L Capri project is going at a snail's pace and I find myself too caught up in work and family life to finish it. But for some reason the idea of seeing what a used E39 M5 was going for popped in my head. I was surprised that there were a few in the GTA for around the same price as a Cobra.... And the M5 made a lot more sense being a 4-door.

It was a chance to buy one of my dream cars, so after some research regarding the changes from year to year, I jumped all over this one. The fact that it was LeMans blue, which is nearly identical to Ford's Sonic Blue (the Cobra colour I wanted) was the icing on the cake.

Since then, I've met a couple of the guys from M5board and learned a heck of a lot about these cars.

I was directed to this forum from a guy on BITOG actually who told me to check this place out. And it definitely appears to be a nice group of people here

Speaking of good group of guys, you should check out the BMWCC Trillium Club, maybe attend one of the driving schools this summer.

At first I thought you might have been at the September Driving School at Mosport. There was an M5 there with the same color combo. He also had a muffler delete done and it sounded mean, I think he posted videos.

Yeah, I'd be up for that. My boss has a DB9 and I think I've convinced him to go to Mosport with me for some lapping

Only a BITOG member would capture and post a pic of the oil bottle. You're all nuts, in a good way.

Beautiful car! Congrats on the find.

Welcome to the M5 world. I myself pick up one in the fall of this past year. Have had a few gremlins pop their jagged little heads, but all in all the sound when I accelerate erases any $$$ I've spent on it.

Look forward to seeing you at the meets. There are a handful of M5's on here.

Yes, I've met a couple of different owners through M5board already.

Is yours stock? What year? Is there a thread with some pics?

Thank you very much

Probably not many mods. I daily drove the car this past summer/fall until I put it away and will be doing the same this year when it comes out.

Biggest mod, which isn't really much of one, will be a Corsa exhaust system.

This kit:

And here's what it sounds like:

The biggest thing for me is getting it running perfectly. I had to replace one CPS last year (passenger side exhaust CPS) and plan on doing the remaining three this year.

MAF's check out perfectly, the car was very well looked after, so it is just going to be mostly little things that need to be done beyond the CPS's.

It needs a clutch. It is at "that mileage", and a quick shift into 4th while flogging it yields a LOT of slip. To make it hold you have to be in 4th and fully engaged THEN flog it. It is fine through all the lower gears.

It needs an axle seal in the rear, drivers-side. it is weeping a bit and the pot is damp on that side. I'll probably change the transmission fluid at the same time.

It will need brakes at some point possibly this summer (recommendations welcome here!).

And I'd like to get rid of the Toyo T1 and T1R tires that are on it for a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport ones.

I also need to find a factory CD changer, as this car was, for whatever bizarre reason, ordered without one

I'm also going to flush the cooling system and other "normal maintenance" things as I go.

I've got a 302 I built for my Mustang sitting in an incomplete car in my garage. Helped a buddy with his car, an '87 GT just before the snow flew, we pulled the engine, swapped oil pan to intake all off the pulled engine onto his "ringer" that we put together for his '85, and then stuffed it back into the '87.

The engine I have sitting around has ported heads, custom cam... blah blah blah, I did H/C/I on it one weekend a few years ago, wrote the car off the next year, put it in another "project" and never completed it. I've got plenty of modding experience, which is why I want to leave this car alone LOL!

Hy man. Yes it's bone stock. 2001. It's been a US car and imported into Canada. 120803kms as of now.

Link should work with pics.. If not just look for the regional forum, then Canada.

I took out my 6 CD changer as I ran the iPod hook up. I could sell you it as I have no need for it.

I would be very interested in that! Send me a PM regarding what you are thinking it is worth.
