I see that you have a coupe. Yes, it will plug and play, but there are some differences. There is a thread on E46fanatics discussing the retrofit. Also, another member there posted in my FS thread confirming that he has one that works in his 325Ci.
Some of the caveats that I can remember:
- the progressive oil warm-up lights on the rpm counter do not work like they do on M3. However, the one yellow and two redline LEDs do illuminate. Keep in mind that it's a 8,500 redline, so don't go above your 6.5k or whatever the redline is for the 323i.

- whenever you swap
any cluster, a tamper dot will illuminate next to the mileage counter to indicate that it's not the original cluster for the car. However, when you put your old cluster back, the dot will not be on it and your original cluster will display the correct mileage from the ECU that the car has as if you've always had your cluster in there. So, it's not an issue unless you plan to sell your car with this cluster down the road.
- traction control light will stay illuminated due to different sensors (you can cover it up it bothers you)
- not sure if SMG gear indicator will work. I think not.
So, if you can live with the above, most of the functionality is available plus a nice ///M logo, LEDs, aluminum rings, oil temperature gauge etc.
The swap is a 5-minute job.
Hope this helps. If you are still interested, PM me. Thanks.
