I don't shoot in RAW, as I don't have a need for it right now. I use either Photoshop, or Picasa; depending on what look I'm going for. Sometimes, I don't edit at all.

Why would you edit? To trim to picture or for privacy thing?

^ The right post processing can turn a decent picture into an excellent one. It's amazing what a quick crop and white balance adjustment can do to make a picture pop. That said, I rarely post process, typically try to get what I want straight from the camera.

Like Axxe said; it can turn an ordinary photo into a great one. Since most people use digital cameras of some sort today, and film isn't involved; you can edit images to look like they were shot using film. Different film has different looks to it once developed. Shooting expired film for instance; has a fairly large following since it has a different tint, and other attributes compared to new film. You can achieve this look using post processing programs like Photoshop, with out shooting with film.

Like this shot, which I tired to make as vintage as possible without Photoshop. I used Picasa for this one instead.

Oh that is very true. Btw what should I use to get/keep the equal picture quality when I upload the images on imageshack. I mean I have the feeling that my picture quality deteriorates as upload them. What would do the trick?

You could make 2 copies of your image. One you could sharpen; then post to imageshack. The opposite happens on flickr. The images I post there are sharpened when they are uploaded. If I have a really sharp image it looks weird when posted on flickr.
