Purchasing a Vdub - daily driver
I will soon be in the car market... looking for opinions -->just something to discuss.
2010 Golf 2.5L
2010 Jetta 2.5L
2010 Golf/Jetta TDI (problem being that people want a lot of money for these cars even though many of them have stupid high mileage)
2009 GLI/GTI
I know there will be those who are going to say "No way I would buy a VW"... thats fine... your thoughts are welcome here also.
Its just going to be a daily driver... something I can leave at the GO Train parking lot and not worry about all day long.
General discussion... which would you buy and why?

the Mk5 diesels have much much more torque and hp then the previous crappy mk4 models
ive driven the mk5 tdi 5speed..it was very very torquey and easy to drive.

Agreed... the Mk6's are even better... I had the pleasure of participating in the VW test drive, 2011 models... thx for the input

I'm looking at getting a MK6 GTI myself actually. To be honest though, it might be a good idea to save a bit more for an MK6 over MK5 - no matter what the model. Everything I've been reading about MK6 has been great; the overall quality feel is apparently much better than the mk5. In the case of the GTI, just make sure you're getting the TSI motor (came in in 2008.5+) instead of the FSI. They have better cams (no lobe scoring issue or watever), better fuel pump, beefier piston rods, better tune (fuel mileage), timing chain over belt and better waterpumps. Mk6 also comes with LSD from factory (GTI).
The only thing that annoys me is they never came with the jacky cloth 'Top Sport' seats in North America - essentially recaro's. You can only get the 'Top Sports' in leather; the jacky cloths come in regular sport seats - which sorta suck lol

Very true. But I have to factor in the costs of higher insurance / 91 Octane fuel which is only going to get more expensive. But I guess you have to pay to play right...

I don't know whether you're joking or what... but I actually love the new Ford Focus... specifically the SEL/Titanium version however I believe it is not offered with a manual transmission option...
It will be my wifes next car for sure...though she's pushing for a Scion

To each his own...
TDi would be nice but I have also heard unconfirmed issues/recalls. Sigh...

Thanks for the input... I prefer exterior of the MK6. MK5's were a little too 'egg' shaped and i absolutely hate the giant shiney grills.

Unless you Chip your car you can run regular 87 in it... I don't run 87 alll the time... but you know... As for the MK6 versus the MK5... They are almost identical... they share a ton of parts in common minus exterior parts... MK5's have gone down significantly in price too... I would look to pick up a Rabbit or a 2.5 Jetta... or a TDI MK5 Jetta
