e46 door lock issue

picked up a 05' 330xi in September. Have had no issues at all with the locking system until now.

When the temperature drops to about 0, the passenger door will not unlock with the key or center console button.

You can hear the door try to unlock with a funny squeek noise, then the lock sometimes moves a bit, sometimes not at all.

If you pull the handle on the inside of the door a few times the lock will pop back up. There is no issue at all locking the passenger door.

been reading up about either the actuator, or GM5 module but because this ONLY happens in cold weather it makes me think its something else.

any input would be great.

I had the same issue with my E46. The problem that i found on mine was that the grease around the moving components got very stiff(frozen-like) during colder temperatures making the lock either not move, or move in slow-motion. All i did was remove the door panel and clean all the moving components with some wd-40 while locking and unlocking at the same time. This cleaned out the existing grease and loosened it up. After that i applied some white grease all over, and worked great for a long time after that.

That being said, i'm not sure if it's the same thing in your case, but worth a try.

appreciate the input, il have to take the door panel off and take a look. Thats what I was hoping the issue would be.
