BMW X5 purchase.....opinions please
Hey peeps!
Im in the market for an X5....nothing new from 2003-2006
Now aside from the gas consumption I could use some feedback from anyone who's owned any one of the models.
What I need it for...
This will be my work horse. I drive everyday and some times over 300+ kms in one day. Not often but enough that I can rack up 50,000 or more a year.
I run my own business and am a Realtor/Broker so presentation is important for me.
Truth be told I LOVE the 4.8is!! That machine is just damn gorgeous!
Its between the 3.0is 4.4 or 4.8is.

4.8is in Imola Red please
also, with a smaller engine, you would be stepping on the gas pedal harder just to get the power to pass someone, thus eating more gas

perhaps something to consider is back seat comfort and getting in and out of the vehicle for your clients. SUV maybe harder for ingress/egress and I don't find the rear seats in the x5 all that comfortable as it's shaped like a church pew.

4.8is or go Home! The stance of the 4.8is is stunning on the road.

^ Exactly, and to just to add to that comment about image, no one care's what you drive, it's how you present yourself as a person or salesman in your case.

As much as I love the 4.8is, reality needs to kick in. A 3.0 will be your best choice considering the amount of driving you do. Just keep your heavy foot off the accelerator and you will do really well with it.
The rumble of the V8's are always very tempting except when you hit the fuel pumps every 2nd day.
Look at it this way, buy a 3.0 and slap some 4.8is replica wheels on it, debadge it and bam....it'll look badass.

Sorry, I have to disagree. In sales/marketing it's all about image. Yes, how you present yourself counts, of course. Here's my slant on how customers think..."you drive a sh!tbox > you don't have money so you must not be a very successful salesman. You drive a nice car > you must have money cause you are a successful saleman". Just my opinion.
Regarding the OP. If you don't need an SUV I'd be tempted to buy a 530 or something like that. I have an X3 and the back seat is roomy but its like a church pew, as well.

Not only do I work on these but I own a 3.0l myself and if is fantastic and very reliable. With the V8 not only is the fuel consumption higher but the repairs are higher as well. I find the 6 to be a great engine.

Used to own a 3.0L as the DD. Traded it in for a Tacoma. Guess how many times the Tacoma's been in the shop since I bought it? Zero... the X5...? Too many.

I also like to add, as an agent of any sort, SUVs are aren't the best choice as some clients are short/physically unfit and climbing in and out of your X5 will become tedious to say, a short overweight 50 year old woman looking to spend her dead husband's millions on a home.
For an agent I'd recommend any of the following:
5-series (M5 if you can)
E-class (<'07 E63 if you can)
A6/A5 (S4/S5 if you can)
